The condition has earned its nickname “the silent killer” because it often does not present any symptoms until it is too late. Generally speaking, the only way to know if you have hypertension is to have your blood pressure taken. “The idea of my patients not having a blood pressure check for three to six months is very scary,” Dr. Stephenie Lucas, the Detroit-based doctor, says. Inspired by OMRON VitalSight’s goal of eliminating heart attacks and strokes, Lucas began putting her patients on the VitalSight program, receiving regular information from patients, even if they’re as far afield as Florida. Thanks to this technology, doctors are finding that VitalSight has helped patients become more involved in their health care, leading to better outcomes.
